Dear Friends and Neighbors,

As Election Day approaches, I want to speak directly about what's at stake.

I know many of you recently received your property tax bills, and I understand the strain taxpayers are facing. When the board voted on this year's tax increase, I stood firm and voted against it. However, we face a challenging reality: Georgia's education funding system actually penalizes communities for trying to keep taxes low. If our millage rate drops below 14, Walker County loses millions in state equalization funds. What we truly need is a state funding formula that rewards local control and efficient spending—not one that traps us in outdated rules that harm our community.

No one else is talking about how reforming Georgia’s outdated education funding formula can make lowering local property taxes possible—I am.

Earlier this year, before I joined, the board extended the superintendent’s contract for the maximum term, despite a year still remaining on the current contract. This decision was made in a narrow 3-2 vote, without clear public explanation or justification. Since joining the board, I’ve seen firsthand how critical it is to restore trust and transparency.

Recently, a board decision to initiate an external investigation has stirred up concerns and speculations in the community, and I understand why. People want answers, not rumors. That’s why I made a motion to release any and all investigation findings to the public—allowing our community to see the facts for themselves.. Though the motion didn’t pass, I remain committed to making sure our community has access to the truth.

I'm running on a platform of honesty and accountability.. While others amplify rumors or act as cheerleaders ignoring facts, I believe you deserve all the facts, even those that are hard to accept. With your support, I’ll keep fighting for the facts to be laid bare, for responsible decision-making, and for honest governance that serves our community and represents your values.

Please remember to vote in the Runoff Tuesday, December 3rd.

Thank you for your trust,

Tina Painter
